Thai Nguyen University and Lao Cai Province Strengthen Cooperation in Training and High-Quality Human Resource Development

On the afternoon of August 18, at the Lao Cai Provincial Party Committee Headquarters, Mr. Duong Quoc Huy, Member of the Party Central Committee and Secretary of the Lao Cai Provincial Party Committee, received and held a working session with a delegation from Thai Nguyen University (TNU), led by Assoc. Prof. Hoang Van Hung, Secretary of the TNU Party Committee and President of TNU. Also attending the meeting were Mr. An Hoang Linh, Member of the Standing Committee of the Lao Cai Provincial Party Committee and Chief of the Provincial Party Committee Office, and Ms. Vu Thi Hien Hanh, Vice Chairwoman of the Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee.

At the meeting, Secretary Duong Quoc Huy expressed his pleasure at welcoming the TNU delegation to Lao Cai and emphasized the need to further strengthen cooperation between the two sides, particularly in human resource training, scientific research, technology transfer, and innovation.

He noted that Lao Cai is facing a significant demand for high-quality human resources, particularly in healthcare, economics, land management, agriculture, science and technology, mineral processing, border-gate economy, and trade. Meanwhile, many mountainous provinces face a common challenge in retaining trained human resources, as graduates often move to major urban centers for further study and employment. This has resulted in shortages of skilled personnel in localities, especially high-quality human resources.

Against this backdrop, Secretary Duong Quoc Huy expressed his hope that TNU would continue to support Lao Cai in human resource development and create greater educational opportunities for students, particularly those from ethnic minority communities and remote, disadvantaged, and border areas, enabling them to receive quality training and return to contribute to their local communities.

The Secretary of the Lao Cai Provincial Party Committee emphasized that, following the provincial merger, expanding higher education and training activities in Lao Cai would not only meet local demand but also provide greater access to education for learners from neighboring provinces. He therefore proposed that TNU conduct research and surveys on the possibility of expanding its training activities and establishing an educational facility in the central area of Lao Cai Province. The province is ready to facilitate the provision of suitable locations and infrastructure and coordinate on relevant administrative procedures to support TNU in studying and implementing the proposal.

Speaking at the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Hoang Van Hung, Secretary of the TNU Party Committee and President of TNU, said that cooperation between TNU and Lao Cai has been developed over many years and has achieved positive results. The TNU Lao Cai Campus is a prominent example of this cooperation.

Building on this foundation, TNU wishes to further expand cooperation with Lao Cai in a practical and sustainable manner, aligned with the province's requirements for education and human resource development. TNU expressed its interest in studying the establishment of a training facility in the central area of Lao Cai, thereby expanding educational opportunities for students in the province and neighboring localities, while strengthening training linkages across the Northern Midlands and Mountainous Region.

In addition, TNU proposed studying the establishment of a TNU Innovation Center in Lao Cai to connect scientific and technological resources, lecturers, students, and businesses, and support the development of the province's innovation ecosystem.

TNU also expressed its readiness to continue coordinating with Lao Cai in training and developing human resources for industrial parks and other priority sectors, as well as in providing professional development programs for civil servants and public employees based on the province's practical needs. These cooperation areas are expected to contribute to the socio-economic development of Lao Cai in the new period.
