Thai Nguyen University Commences the 2026–2027 Academic Year

On September 5, Thai Nguyen University (TNU), together with educational institutions nationwide, solemnly held the Opening Ceremony for the 2026–2027 academic year.

Overview of the Opening Ceremony.

Attending the ceremony was Mr. Bui Van Luong, Deputy Secretary of the Thai Nguyen Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Council, Mr. Vu Duc Chinh, Member of the Provincial Party Committee and Chief of Office of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation and People's Council; and representatives of provincial departments, agencies and local authorities.

Representing TNU were Assoc. Prof. Hoang Van Hung, Secretary of the TNU Party Committee and President of TNU; leaders of TNU's affiliated units; partners and businesses; as well as lecturers, staff and students from the School of Foreign Languages, International School and Institute of Excellence in Training and Research.

From 7:30 to 8:30 a.m., TNU joined the nationwide Opening Ceremony for the 2026–2027 academic year via videoconference, connected to the central venue at Muong Khuong Ethnic Boarding High School in Lao Cai Province and other locations across the country.

The flag salute, national anthem and drum-beating ceremonies were conducted simultaneously nationwide, creating a solemn and unified atmosphere for the new academic year. At the central venue, Minister of Education and Training Hoang Minh Son read a letter from General Secretary and President To Lam to teachers, students and the education sector on the occasion of the new academic year.

In his speech, Assoc. Prof. Hoang Van Hung emphasized TNU's role as a multidisciplinary and multi-field regional university with a large-scale education system and an extensive presence across the Northern Midlands and Mountainous Region. TNU's educational ecosystem now extends from Dien Bien to Cao Bang, encompassing education and training, scientific research, digital transformation and innovation.

In the past academic year, TNU continued to achieve positive results in admissions, with 27,918 candidates admitted in the first admission round of 2026. The University of Technology, the University of Sciences, and the University of Information and Communication Technology each enrolled more than 4,000 new students.

The International School enrolled nearly 900 domestic and international students, including students from 15 countries and territories, contributing to a dynamic, multicultural and internationally oriented learning environment.

Regarding faculty and training quality, more than 42% of TNU's lecturers hold doctoral degrees, including 206 professors and associate professors. All member universities have completed the second cycle of institutional accreditation, while 37 training programs have achieved AUN-QA accreditation.

In science, technology and digital transformation, TNU has invested more than VND 300 billion in developing a smart university ecosystem. Phase 1 of the Data Center has been completed with 13 high-performance servers. Science and technology revenue exceeded VND 177 billion in 2025, representing a 36% increase compared with the previous year. TNU researchers published 1,165 international papers, including 563 papers indexed in Web of Science and Scopus. In the first six months of 2026 alone, TNU recorded 751 international publications.

Entering the 2026–2027 academic year, TNU will focus on six key tasks and six breakthrough areas, with priorities including the development of key academic disciplines; improvement of training and research quality; promotion of digital transformation and responsible AI applications; data-driven governance; expanded cooperation with local authorities, businesses and international partners; and the development of a democratic, disciplined, humane and internationally integrated educational environment.
