Thai Nguyen University Expands Educational Cooperation with Lao Higher Education Institutions

As part of the working visit of the Ministry of Education and Training to the Lao People’s Democratic Republic from August 24 to 28, 2026, a delegation from Thai Nguyen University (TNU), led by Dr. Nguyen Van Tao, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Deputy Director of TNU, conducted a series of working sessions, field visits, and exchanges with various Lao authorities and educational institutions. The visit contributed to expanding TNU’s international cooperation network while providing valuable practical insights for further research into the establishment of a TNU Campus in Laos.

During the visit, the TNU delegation held working sessions with representatives of the Lao Ministry of Education and Sports, the Embassy of Vietnam in Laos, the Vietnam- Laos Cooperation Committee, as well as higher education and vocational education institutions in Vientiane and other localities.

The discussions focused on Laos’ education system, human resource development needs, training and research activities, and opportunities to expand cooperation between educational institutions of the two countries.

One of the notable outcomes of the visit was the consolidation and expansion of cooperation with leading higher education institutions in Laos, establishing a network of connections extending from the capital Vientiane to southern and northern regions of the country.

The delegation conducted field visits and held discussions with the National University of Laos, Champasak University, and Souphanouvong University. Each institution has its own position and areas of strength, providing opportunities for TNU to explore region-specific and discipline-based cooperation initiatives.

Through the field visits, the delegation gained first-hand insights into the scale, organizational structures, staff, training and scientific research activities, and facilities of Lao educational institutions. The delegation also discussed cooperation needs and the conditions required for implementing joint programs in the coming period.

The visit highlighted the significant potential for further cooperation between TNU and Lao educational institutions, particularly in human resource development, scientific research, academic exchange, Vietnamese and Lao language training, agriculture and forestry, engineering and technology, economics and management, and other fields supporting socio-economic development.

In particular, the information and practical experience gained during the visit will provide an important basis for TNU to continue studying and developing a plan to establish a TNU Campus in Laos. This initiative is regarded as a strategic direction for expanding TNU’s international cooperation landscape, leveraging the strengths of a regional university in education, scientific research, and human resource development, while contributing to stronger educational and training cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.

The working visit once again affirmed TNU’s commitment to proactively expanding international cooperation and aligning its training and research activities with the development needs of localities and international partners. Through these efforts, TNU aims to further enhance its role and position within the regional higher education network.
