Thai Nguyen University: Outstanding Achievements in Research and Technology Activities in the Academic Year 2024–2025

On November 11, Thai Nguyen University (TNU) held the Conference on the Review of Research and Technology Activities for the Academic Year 2024–2025 and the Action Planning for 2025–2026. Assoc. Prof. Hoang Van Hung, PhD, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President of TNU; representatives of the Office, the Office of Party and Union Affairs, functional departments, centers, member universities and colleges, affiliated Schools; and heads of science and technology offices, as well as researchers from TNU were at the event.

In the academic year 2024–2025, TNU implemented 41 national-level science and technology projects, including 32 ongoing and 9 newly approved projects, with a total funding of over VND 57 billion. All projects were carried out in compliance with regulations and on track. During the year, one Protocol-level project, one independent national KC-4.0 project, and five NAFOSTED projects were completed and evaluated.

At the ministerial level, TNU has conducted 85 projects, funded by the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET), comprising 63 ongoing and 22 newly approved ones. Of the ongoing projects, 32 have been finalized and approved. These projects have resulted in 38 publications in prestigious international journals indexed in WoS, 21 papers in Scopus-listed journals, and 29 papers in other national and international journals. They have supported the training of 16 doctoral candidates and 35 master’s students, produced 6 reference materials, and developed 32 applied products — including 1 granted patent and 6 accepted patent applications. In addition, TNU proposed, submitted, and had approved 22 new MOET-level projects to be implemented from 2025 and 24 others to commence by 2026.

At the university level, 60 projects and research tasks were implemented during the year. Member institutions also carried out 404 institutional-level projects and 698 student research projects. Student research activities continued to thrive through academic conferences, innovation, and start-up competitions, earning numerous national and international awards.

During the academic year 2024–2025, TNU researchers published a total of 2,178 research papers, including 393 articles in WoS-indexed journals, 153 in Scopus-indexed journals, 1,376 in domestic and international journals, and 256 papers in global and national conference proceedings. Scientific conferences and workshops were regularly organized, contributing to promoting TNU’s academic reputation. TNU also published 155 books, including 12 monographs, 84 textbooks, 59 reference books, and 7 other teaching materials. In the field of scientific cooperation and technology transfer, the university signed more than 60 contracts with a total value exceeding VND 43 billion.

In his speech, Assoc. Prof. Hoang Van Hung, PhD,  highly appreciated the efforts and contributions of faculty members and scientists. He emphasized that over the past 30 years, TNU has made significant contributions to scientific and technological development as well as the transfer of technological innovations in the Midland and northern mountainous regions of Vietnam.
For the academic year 2025–2026, TNU will continue focusing on developing its human resources, promoting interdisciplinary research aligned with the demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and striving to meet the QS Top 500 university ranking criteria in science, technology, and innovation. The university will also strengthen the linkage between research activities and socio-economic development in the region.

On this occasion, the President of Thai Nguyen University awarded Certificates of Merit to three faculty members and forty-three individuals for their outstanding achievements in science and technology activities in the academic year 2024–2025.
