On January 28th, Thai Nguyen University (TNU) held a working session with a delegation from Gyeongsang National University (GNU), Republic of Korea.

The GNU delegation included Ms. Hwang Jeongsuk, Director of the Office of International Education, Mr. Yoo Haejun, Deputy Director of the Office of International Education, Mr. Kim Myeong Gwon, Executive Director of the Korea Economic and Cultural Corporation (KCEC), and representatives of Gyeongsang National University.
Representing Thai Nguyen University at the meeting were leaders and representatives of the Department of Science, Technology and International Affairs, the Institute of Excellence in Education and Research, the Center of Training and International Development; and the Digital Center
Speaking at the meeting, a representative of the leadership of the Department of Science, Technology and International Affairs provided an overview of Thai Nguyen University’s mission, functions, development potential and position within the national higher education system. Currently, Thai Nguyen University enrolls approximately 115,000 students, operates a multidisciplinary education system comprising seven member universities and three campuses, and offers training in 350 academic programs and disciplines, thereby meeting the socio-economic development needs of the region and the country.

Over the years, Thai Nguyen University has proactively expanded and strengthened cooperation with numerous international partners, including institutions from the Republic of Korea, with a focus on education and training, research, and academic and human resource exchanges.
Thai Nguyen University emphasized that, in the context of the increasing investment inflow from Korean corporations into Viet Nam, together with the growing demand among Vietnamese workers for higher education opportunities in the Republic of Korea and the rising interest of students in learning the Korean language, there is a pressing need to develop appropriate academic programs and international collaborative initiatives aligned with the University’s internationalization strategy.
During the working session, representatives of Gyeongsang National University shared that GNU is a public university under Gyeongsangnam-do (South Gyeongsang Province) and is among the ten national public universities of the Republic of Korea. The University offers multidisciplinary academic programs, attracts both domestic and international students, and actively engages in research and international cooperation.

The GNU delegation affirmed their readiness to dispatch highly qualified faculty members to teach at Thai Nguyen University, noting that academic staff support could be implemented in the near future.
With regard to education cooperation and student exchange, Gyeongsang National University proposed that the two sides further discuss several key areas, including: the implementation of a 2+2 joint training program in Korean Language studies, with potential expansion to other academic fields; the promotion of short-term student exchange programs by semester or academic year; and the consideration of support policies related to tuition fees and dormitory accommodation for GNU students studying, undertaking internships, and exploring Vietnamese language and culture at Thai Nguyen University.
At the meeting, both sides focused on discussions to further concretize a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), thereby establishing a solid legal framework for in-depth and sustainable cooperation, with priority given to the development of flexible and long-term student exchange pathways.
