Within the framework of the National visit to China from April 14–17 by General Secretary and President To Lam, accompanied by his spouse and a high-level Vietnamese delegation, the Party General Secretary and President attended and delivered an important policy speech at the Forum.

The guest and the host sides at the event were Mr. Yin Li, Member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of the Beijing Municipal Party Committee, leaders of China’s Ministry of Education and Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training; along with a large number of professors, lecturers, and students of Tsinghua University.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Qiu Yong, Secretary of the Party Committee of Tsinghua University, expressed his pleasure in welcoming General Secretary and National President To Lam and the high-level Vietnamese delegation to the university and the Forum.

At present, leaders of both countries have emphasized science and technology development and high-quality human resource training as priority areas, guiding the expansion of bilateral cooperation in the coming period. Cooperation between universities of both sides also contributes to strengthening people-to-people exchanges, enhancing mutual understanding and fostering closer ties between the neighboring countries of Vietnam and China.

Addressing faculty members and students of Tsinghua University, General Secretary and President To Lam highlighted that Vietnam and China are neighboring countries sharing many cultural similarities and long-standing traditions.

He expressed his satisfaction with the increasingly positive development of cooperation between Vietnamese educational and research institutions and Tsinghua University. Both sides have identified priority areas such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, science and technology, and high-quality human resource development—directions that are both appropriate and necessary, and which should continue to be expanded in the future.

Looking ahead, the Party General Secretary and President emphasized the importance of further consolidating the political and social foundations of Vietnam–China relations. He reaffirmed Vietnam’s strong commitment to cooperation with China in complementary and mutually beneficial fields, particularly artificial intelligence, big data, cloud computing, semiconductors, automation, robotics, green technology, biotechnology, new materials, clean energy, and other strategic technology sectors.

He expressed his expectation that Vietnam–China cooperation will not only grow stronger in trade and investment, but also in knowledge, technology, innovation, and future-building capacity.

Within this strategic vision, education and training, along with the development of high-quality human resources, must be a top priority. According to General Secretary and National President To Lam, to advance rapidly in the 21st century, Vietnam needs a new generation equipped with a strong scientific foundation, mastery of modern technologies, innovative thinking, and the capability for international integration.

At the Forum, Assoc. Prof. Hoang Van Hung delivered an important presentation on the potential and opportunities for cooperation between Thai Nguyen University and Tsinghua University.

He emphasized that Thai Nguyen University is a regional university located in the Northern Midlands and Mountainous Region of Vietnam—an area sharing notable similarities with certain regions of China in terms of terrain, ecosystems, biodiversity, as well as the traditional farming practices of ethnic minority communities. These similarities provide significant potential for promoting joint research programs between the two universities.

Priority areas for collaboration may include biodiversity conservation, particularly the preservation and sustainable development of forest ecosystems. In addition, sustainable water resource management is an urgent issue for Vietnam’s midland and mountainous regions, requiring enhanced cooperation in research, experience sharing, and technology transfer between the two sides.

With a spirit of cooperation, Thai Nguyen University looks forward to strengthening its partnership with Tsinghua University, contributing meaningfully to sustainable development goals not only at the national level but also regionally and globally.
