Strengthening Cooperation between Thai Nguyen University and Samsung Vietnam

On the morning of February 25, Thai Nguyen University (TNU) hosted and held a working session with a delegation from Samsung Vietnam, led by Mr. Kim Yong Sup, Vice President of Samsung Vietnam. The meeting aimed to exchange views and discuss potential areas of cooperation between the two parties, as well as to conduct a site survey for the establishment of the Samsung Innovation Campus Laboratory (SIC Lab) at TNU. The representatives of the Thai Nguyen Provincial Party Committee Office and the Department of Science and Technology of Thai Nguyen Province attended the meeting.

The delegates of Thai Nguyen University includes Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Van Hung, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President of TNU, Dr. Nguyen Hong Lien, Vice President of TNU, and representatives from the University Office, the Department of Science, Technology and International Affairs, member universities and colleges, the School of Foreign Languages, the International School, and the Digital Center.

In his remarks, Assoc. Prof. Hoang Van Hung provided an overview of Thai Nguyen University, emphasizing its role as a key regional university operating under a two-tier, multidisciplinary and multi-field model. TNU serves as a major center for education, scientific research, and technology transfer in the Northern Midlands and Mountainous Region and across Vietnam. The University currently comprises seven member universities, one college, the School of Foreign Languages, the International School, and three satellite campuses in Lao Cai, Ha Giang, and Dien Bien, along with affiliated units and ten centers supporting training and research activities.

TNU has nearly 4,000 staff members, including more than 2,500 academic staff, of whom over 1,000 hold doctoral degrees. In 2025, the University enrolled over 115,000 learners, including 37% from ethnic minority groups and approximately 1,000 international students from 26 countries and territories. TNU offers more than 350 undergraduate and postgraduate programs. In parallel with its academic mission, the University actively promotes applied research, technology transfer, and community engagement. TNU aims to develop into a green and digital university and a regional innovation hub, with the strategic goal of achieving a position among the top 500 universities in Asia by 2030.

TNU has established and expanded extensive partnerships with Korean universities, organizations, and enterprises across various fields, including education, research, academic exchange, and digital transformation. To date, TNU has signed 23 cooperation agreements with Korean partners such as Kyungpook National University, Yeungnam University, Keimyung University, Daegu University, and Jeonju University. The University has a strong foundation and longstanding experience in training in electronics, telecommunications, computer science, and automation engineering. Since 2022, TNU has welcomed more than 200 Korean experts for teaching, research collaboration, and academic exchange, while over 90 faculty members have been sent to Korea for advanced training. TNU students have also benefited from scholarships and laboratory support provided by Samsung.

Commending Samsung Vietnam’s strong commitment to social responsibility, Assoc. Prof. Hoang Van Hung expressed his hope that the two parties would further expand cooperation, particularly in developing high-quality human resources and advancing technology transfer.

Mr. Kim Yong Sup expressed his sincere appreciation for the warm reception extended by TNU. He shared that Samsung Vietnam plans to offer free training programs in artificial intelligence (AI), Big Data, IoT, and semiconductor technologies for students in Thai Nguyen through the establishment of the Samsung Innovation Campus Laboratory (SIC Lab) at TNU. The laboratory is expected to be completed within the first half of 2026. Samsung Vietnam also expressed its hope that TNU would select talented and technology-oriented students to participate in these programs and strengthen cooperation in developing a highly skilled workforce aligned with industry needs.

Assoc. Prof. Hoang Van Hung expressed his sincere appreciation for Samsung Vietnam’s continued support and affirmed TNU’s commitment to effectively implementing and operating the SIC Lab. This initiative is expected to enhance training quality and contribute to the development of an innovation ecosystem closely aligned with industry and societal demands.

As part of the program, the delegation visited the TNU Digital Center and the University of Information and Communication Technology, and engaged in discussions on the development of an innovation ecosystem that integrates education, research, and enterprise needs, contributing to sustainable development and technological advancement.
