Thai Nguyen University and South-Central Minzu University (China) Hold Working Session to Promote Academic Cooperation

 

On the morning of December 16, Thai Nguyen University (TNU) convened an online working session with South-Central Minzu University, China, with a view to exchanging information and reaching an agreement on orientations for cooperation in education, research, and academic exchange.

The delegation of South-Central Minzu University was headed by Ms. Sun Xiaoli, Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange and Dean of the International Education Institute, accompanied by representatives of the leadership of member schools and institutes.

Representing Thai Nguyen University were Dr. Mai Anh Khoa, Director of the Department of Science, Technology, and International Affairs; Dr. Nong Hong Hanh, Deputy Director of the Department; representatives of the Department of Academic and Student Affairs; together with representatives of affiliated and subordinate units.

In her address at the meeting, Ms. Sun Xiaoli affirmed South-Central Minzu University focuses on developing joint education programs, including 2+2 and 3+1 models, enabling students of Thai Nguyen University to undertake part of their studies in China. She further emphasized the university’s commitment to strengthening cooperation in scientific research, with a focus on developing joint research programs and considering the establishment of joint laboratories. At present, SCMU is hosting several Vietnamese students who have demonstrated positive academic performance, thereby creating a favorable foundation for the expansion of bilateral cooperation in the coming period.

Based on the exchange of views, the two institutions provided overviews of their organizational structures, development orientations, and respective strengths in education and research. Accordingly, the two sides reached consensus on several key areas of cooperation, including: joint academic programs at undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels; cooperation in scientific research through the implementation of joint projects and international publications; and exchanges of lecturers, researchers, postgraduate students, and students, thereby contributing to the enhancement of training quality and the promotion of academic and cultural exchange.

Representatives of the College of Economics and Techniques proposed cooperation in scientific research and technology transfer, with a focus on electrical and engineering disciplines. In addition, the College suggested collaboration in Chinese language training for students and the strengthening of linkages with enterprises that utilize Chinese.

Representatives of the University of Agriculture and Forestry proposed in-depth cooperation in the fields of agriculture, forestry, food technology, animal husbandry, and veterinary medicine. The proposals also included exploring flexible joint training models such as 1+2 and 1+1, enhancing cooperation in scientific research through the development of joint projects and programs, and promoting exchanges of lecturers and students.

At the conclusion of the working session, both sides agreed to continue detailed discussions towards the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), which will serve as the legal basis for the implementation of specific, effective, and sustainable cooperative activities.

The working session represents an important initial step in expanding Thai Nguyen University’s international cooperation network, while further promoting cooperation in education, training, and research between higher education institutions of Viet Nam and China.
