Thai Nguyen University Holds Official Working Session with Federation University Australia

On the morning of January 23rd, Thai Nguyen University (TNU) held an official working session with a delegation from Federation University Australia, led by Mr. Paul Oppenheimer, Chief Operating Officer of Federation University, who served as Head of the delegation.

Representatives of Thai Nguyen University at the meeting were leaders and officials from the Department of Science, Technology, and International Affairs; the Department of Academic and Student Affairs; the Institute of Excellence in Education and Research; the Center for Training and International Development; the School of Foreign Languages; and the International School.

At the working session, a representative of the leadership of the Department of Science, Technology, and International Affairs presented an overview of Thai Nguyen University’s position, strengths, and strategic development orientations in education and scientific research. The presentation highlighted research activities aligned with sustainable development goals and closely linked to addressing the practical needs of the Northern Midlands and Mountainous Region of Viet Nam. Currently, Thai Nguyen University comprises 14 educational institutions with nearly 4,000 staff members, including over 2,500 lecturers. Among them are 206 professors and associate professors and more than 1,000 doctoral degree holders, accounting for approximately 41% of the total academic staff. In 2025, the University’s total enrollment exceeded 115,000 learners.

In his remarks, Mr. Paul Oppenheimer expressed his sincere appreciation for the warm and thoughtful reception by Thai Nguyen University. He also introduced Federation University Australia as a regional university in the state of Victoria and a pioneer in the implementation of the Co-operative Education (Co-op) model, the first of its kind in Australia. This modern educational approach is designed to closely align with the practical needs of students, industry, and the wider community. Mr. Oppenheimer emphasized that both institutions are regional universities sharing similar missions in education and service to local development. He noted that strengthening exchanges and cooperation would contribute significantly to enhancing training quality, research capacity, and internationalization for both universities. Federation University Australia expressed its strong commitment to fostering a sustainable and long-term partnership with Thai Nguyen University in the coming period.

During the meeting, the two sides engaged in in-depth discussions on potential directions for cooperation in education and training, scientific research, and academic exchange. The discussions also focused on solutions to enhance student learning outcomes, with an emphasis on strengthening practical competencies, improving career adaptability, and promoting international integration.
