Tomsk Polytechnic University (Russian Federation) Conducts an Official Working Visit to Thai Nguyen University

On December 18, Thai Nguyen University had the honor of welcoming Ms. Verkhoturova Vera Viktorovna, Adviser to the Rector for International Relations and Head of Department of the Scientific and Educational Center for International Nuclear Education and Career Support for International Students of Tomsk Polytechnic University (Russian Federation), for an official working visit.

From the Thai Nguyen University side, Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Thanh Ha, Vice Chair of the University Council of Thai Nguyen University, together with representatives of functional departments of Thai Nguyen University, hosted the meeting.

In his opening remarks, Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Thanh Ha emphasized that Thai Nguyen University has a longstanding tradition of cooperation with higher education institutions of the Russian Federation, with many faculty members and academic staff having pursued postgraduate education and training in Russia. To date, Thai Nguyen University has established comprehensive cooperation with six higher education institutions of the Russian Federation and officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tomsk Polytechnic University on March 19, 2025.

The signing of the MoU aims to further promote international exchanges, strengthen traditional friendship, and foster sustainable development between Vietnam and the Russian Federation in general, and between Thai Nguyen University and Tomsk Polytechnic University in particular.

Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Thanh Ha further introduced that Thai Nguyen University is a regional, multidisciplinary, and multi-sector university system, currently enrolling over 115,000 students and employing nearly 3,500 staff members, lecturers, and scientists. At present, approximately 1,000 international students from 26 countries and territories are studying at Thai Nguyen University. In recent years, a number of students from the Russian Federation have participated in study and exchange programs at the University through the IAESTE program.

In response to the accelerating trends of digital transformation and the global development of the semiconductor industry, Thai Nguyen University expressed its strong interest in expanding cooperation in key areas, such as science and technology, engineering, semiconductors, and information technology. The University also proposed strengthening exchanges of experts and lecturers with Tomsk Polytechnic University to enhance research capacity, increase international scientific publications, and deepen mutual understanding of Russian culture and academic traditions.

Thai Nguyen University highly values the role of Tomsk Polytechnic University as a strategic partner and expects it to serve as an important bridge for expanding cooperation with other leading universities and research institutions of the Russian Federation in the coming period.

Furthermore, Thai Nguyen University reaffirmed its readiness to receive lecturers and students from the Russian Federation for exchange, study, and internships in various fields, including science and technology, agriculture–forestry-fisheries, teacher education, and medical and pharmaceutical sciences. The University also expressed its willingness to jointly organize cultural exchange programs, academic conferences, and international seminars to enhance mutual understanding and promote appreciation of the culture, customs, and traditions of the Russian Federation.

In her remarks, Ms. Verkhoturova Vera Viktorovna expressed her sincere appreciation for the warm, respectful, and professional reception extended by Thai Nguyen University. She also conveyed her pleasure and pride in the successful signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the two institutions in March 2025.

Ms. Verkhoturova highly appreciated the cooperation proposals put forward by Thai Nguyen University and proposed expanding collaboration in Tomsk Polytechnic University’s areas of strength, including chemical sciences, biomedical research, conventional energy, green energy, hydrogen energy, solar energy, geology, semiconductors, information technology, and nuclear technology. She affirmed that Tomsk Polytechnic University is fully prepared to mobilize experts and resources to effectively support cooperation initiatives in these fields.

During the meeting, representatives of the Department of Science, Technology, and International Affairs of Thai Nguyen University expressed their sincere appreciation to Ms. Verkhoturova Vera Viktorovna for sharing valuable insights into potential cooperation directions. They also proposed that Tomsk Polytechnic University cooperate with the TNU Journal of Science and Technology within its internationalization roadmap; introduce leading scientists and research institutions in the field of medicinal herbs; participate in the Northern Region Agriculture Biotechnology 4.0 Network chaired by Thai Nguyen University; engage in activities of the Climate Park focusing on green and renewable energy; strengthen faculty and academic exchanges; cooperate in research on nuclear technology; and continue in-depth discussions on joint training programs in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and big data.

Within the framework of the visit, Ms. Verkhoturova Vera Viktorovna also delivered an academic exchange session to students of Thai Nguyen University on the topic “The Development of Nuclear Technology in the Modern World: Current Status and Prospects.”
