Thai Nguyen University Signs a Memorandum of Understanding with Cheongju University (Republic of Korea)

On the afternoon of December 9th, a delegation from Cheongju University (Republic of Korea), led by Mr. Kim Yoon Bae, President of the University, paid a courtesy visit and held a working session at Thai Nguyen University.

On behalf of the leadership of Thai Nguyen University, Assoc. Prof. Hoàng Văn Hùng, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Thai Nguyen University and President of the University, together with representatives of the Office, functional departments, and member universities, solemnly welcomed the delegation.

In his remarks, Assoc. Prof. Hoàng Văn Hùng, PhD expressed his honor in meeting  the delegates from Cheongju University. He provided an overview of the stature and capacity of Thai Nguyen University—a multidisciplinary and multi-field regional university that plays a pivotal role in high-quality human resource training, scientific research, and technology transfer for the Midlands and Northern Mountainous Region, as well as for the whole country.

Fulfilling its mission as a regional university entrusted with national strategic tasks and regional development responsibilities, Thai Nguyen University has established three  campuses in the northern border provinces (Lao Cai; Ha Giang – Tuyen Quang; and Dien Bien). These campuses significantly contribute to human resource training, socio-economic development, and the strengthening of the nation’s “frontier shield.” The university currently has enrolled more than 115,000 students and has employed over 3,500 staff, lecturers, and researchers, including more than 1,000 doctorate holders (accounting for 41% of its academic faculty). Its international publications exceed 2,100, with 393 scientific articles indexed in WoS; the university also hosts nearly 1,000 international students from 26 countries and territories.

During the meeting, the President of Thai Nguyen University proposed three strategic cooperation areas with Cheongju University, including Joint academic programs at undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels, as well as short-term training programs; Joint research in priority areas such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and biotechnology, with a focus on enhancing international publications and developing applicable research outputs; and Academic exchange, including faculty and student mobility programs, aimed at fostering academic exchange and international integration.

On behalf of the delegates, Mr. Kim Yoon Bae conveyed his sincere thanks for the thoughtful and respectful reception extended by Thai Nguyen University. He provided an overview of Cheongju University—one of Korea’s reputable higher education institutions, renowned for its strong internationalization efforts and currently hosting more than 4,000 international students.

He highly appreciated the cooperation proposals put forth by Thai Nguyen University and affirmed Cheongju University’s readiness to jointly implement feasible and mutually beneficial initiatives, particularly in undergraduate training.

Within the framework of the working program, the two universities formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding, marking a significant milestone in their educational partnership and opening new prospects for substantive and expanded cooperation in the future.

The program concluded in an atmosphere of solemnity, cordiality, and mutual trust, affirming the strong commitment of both institutions to fostering effective and sustainable collaboration.
