Thai Nguyen University Holds Working Session with Cao Bang Provincial Delegation

On the morning of January 13, Thai Nguyen University (TNU) hosted and held a working session with a delegation from Cao Bang Province to exchange views and discuss local human resource training and capacity-building needs; strengthen cooperation in education and training to improve the quality of higher education and vocational education; and promote collaboration in scientific research, knowledge transfer, and socio-economic development support for the province.

The Cao Bang provincial delegation included Mr. Luu Cong Huu, Director of the Department of Finance; Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thu, Director of the Department of Education and Training; and Mr. Dinh Ngoc Luong, Principal of Cao Bang College.

Working with the delegation on behalf of Thai Nguyen University were Dr. Nguyen Van Tao, Secretary of the Party Committee of TNU; Assoc. Prof. Hoang Van Hung, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President of TNU; Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Thanh Ha, Chairperson of the TNU Trade Union; together with representatives of the University Office and functional departments.

In his welcome address, Assoc. Prof. Hoang Van Hung noted that Thai Nguyen University is a two-tier, multidisciplinary institution and a key center for education, research, and technology transfer in the Northern Midlands and Mountainous Region. Over more than 30 years of development, TNU has consistently affirmed its responsibility as a regional university in fulfilling national strategic missions and contributing to local human resource development, particularly in mountainous and border provinces.

The practical operation of Thai Nguyen University campuses in Lao Cai and Ha Giang has demonstrated clear effectiveness in expanding access to higher education for local learners, providing training aligned with local needs, and contributing to social stability and sustainable socio-economic development.

Currently, Thai Nguyen University comprises 14 training units, nearly 4,000 staff members, and more than 2,500 lecturers. The total enrollment of the University exceeds 115,000 learners, with students from ethnic minority groups accounting for a significant proportion. With a diverse portfolio of academic programs and increasing international integration, Thai Nguyen University continues to affirm its reputation and training quality within higher education system in Vietnam.

Representatives of the Cao Bang provincial delegation expressed their sincere appreciation for the warm reception and the practical sharing and consultation provided by Thai Nguyen University. They noted that Cao Bang Province is prioritizing education development and is currently studying a proposal to establish a higher education institution in the province. At present, the province faces a shortage of approximately 3,000 teachers, along with challenges related to resources, infrastructure, academic staff, and student recruitment. The delegation expressed its hope that Thai Nguyen University would study and support the establishment of a branch campus in Cao Bang Province, with the aim of commencing student recruitment as early as 2026.

Speaking at the session, Dr. Nguyen Van Tao affirmed that Thai Nguyen University is ready to provide consultation and coordinate closely with Cao Bang Province in a prompt, timely, and effective manner, toward comprehensive cooperation in high-quality human resource training, scientific research, and technology transfer to meet the province’s sustainable development needs.

Concluding the working session, Assoc. Prof. Hoang Van Hung, President of Thai Nguyen University, emphasized that the Department of Organization and Personnel of Thai Nguyen University would serve as the focal point for implementing cooperative activities and moving toward the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding. With strong commitment, Thai Nguyen University reaffirmed its readiness to accompany and support Cao Bang Province in the early establishment of a higher education institution, contributing to local human resource development and socio-economic growth in the new period.
