On the afternoon of January 30, Thai Nguyen University (TNU) held a working session with the People’s Committee of Cao Bang Province to implement the Cooperation Agreement on education and training, human resource development, and consultancy for the establishment of a branch campus/university in Cao Bang Province.

At the working session was Mr. Le Hai Hoa, Alternate Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Cao Bang Province; representatives of the leadership of provincial departments, including the Departments of Education and Training, Health, Construction, Home Affairs, Science and Technology, Finance, Justice, Agriculture and Environment; and the Office of the People’s Committee of Cao Bang Province.

In his remarks, Assoc. Prof. Hoang Van Hung introduced an overview of Thai Nguyen University’s organizational model, scale, and development orientation. He emphasized that TNU is a regional university operating under a two-tier university model, with multidisciplinary and multi-field training, serving as a major center for education, scientific research, and technology transfer in the Northern Midlands and Mountainous Region as well as nationwide. Currently, TNU comprises seven member universities and one college, the School of Foreign Languages, the International School, three campuses in Lao Cai, Ha Giang, and Dien Bien provinces, along with various affiliated units and ten centers supporting training and research activities.

Affirming the responsibility of a regional university in fulfilling national strategic missions and regional development goals, the President of TNU noted that the establishment and development of campuses in northern border provinces have generated clear outcomes in expanding access to education, training local human resources, contributing to social stability, and promoting sustainable socio-economic development.

At present, TNU has nearly 4,000 staff members, including more than 2,500 lecturers, with over 1,000 holding doctoral degrees. In 2025, the total enrollment reached over 115,000 learners, of whom 37% are from ethnic minority groups, along with approximately 1,000 international students from 26 countries and territories.
TNU aims to develop into a green university, a digital university, and a regional innovation hub, striving to be ranked among the top 500 universities in Asia by 2030. In line with its development expansion strategy, TNU has proposed the establishment of a TNU campus in Cao Bang Province and stands ready to cooperate with and support the province in human resource training, digital transformation, and innovation.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Le Hai Hoa highlighted the special position of Cao Bang Province in the history of the Vietnamese revolution and within the development linkage axis of Hanoi – Thai Nguyen – Cao Bang – China. He emphasized that cooperation with Thai Nguyen University and the study of establishing a university campus in Cao Bang are necessary, not only to meet local human resource training needs but also to contribute to regional development. Cao Bang Province highly agrees with this policy, commits to close coordination with TNU, and will prepare land resources and other necessary conditions to ensure effective long-term implementation. The province also expressed its expectation that both sides will soon develop a concrete program framework with a clear implementation roadmap.
