Announcement of the Prime Minister’s Decision on the Merger of the Northern College of Law into the University of Sciences, Thai Nguyen University, and Personnel Appointments of Thai Nguyen University

On the afternoon of June 16, at the Thai Nguyen University Conference Center, Deputy Prime Minister Le Tien Chau attended the ceremony announcing the Prime Minister’s Decision on the merger of the Northern College of Law into the University of Sciences- Thai Nguyen University (TNU), as well as the announcement of personnel appointments of Thai Nguyen University.

Thai Nguyen University was honored to receive Mr. Hoang Minh Son, Member of the Party Central Committee and Minister of Education and Training; Mr. Trinh Xuan Truong, Member of the Party Central Committee and Secretary of the Thai Nguyen Provincial Party Committee, Ms. Dang Hoang Oanh, Deputy Minister of Justice, leaders of Thai Nguyen Province; and representatives of central ministries and agencies.

Representing Thai Nguyen University were Assoc. Prof. Hoang Van Hung, President of TNU, Dr. Nguyen Van Tao, Vice President of TNU, Dr. Nguyen Hong Lien, Vice President of TNU, and Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Thanh Ha, Member of the Standing Committee of the TNU Party Committee, President of the University Trade Union, and Director of the Regional Innovation Center. Leaders of member universities and affiliated schools, faculty members, staff, students, and outstanding international students representing more than 115,000 learners of Thai Nguyen University also attended the event.

Authorized by the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister Le Tien Chau presented Decision No. 806/QD-TTg on the merger of the Northern College of Law into the University of Sciences, Thai Nguyen University. The merger marks a significant step in implementing the Government’s policy of streamlining organizational structures and enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of higher education institutions.

In his address, Deputy Prime Minister Le Tien Chau emphasized that the merger is not merely an organizational restructuring but also an important milestone in the reorganization of the higher education network. It is expected to create new opportunities for development, optimize resources, improve the quality of education and scientific research, and enhance the efficiency of public investment.

The Deputy Prime Minister encouraged Thai Nguyen University to continue pursuing its aspiration to become a leading research university, an innovation hub, and a reputable policy advisory center at both national and regional levels. He further underscored TNU’s strategic role as a key university serving the Northern Midlands and Mountainous Region and called for continued innovation in university governance and effective implementation of institutional autonomy with accountability. Regarding legal education following the merger, he stressed the importance of developing it into a new academic strength closely linked to regional practical needs, including land and natural resource management, ethnic and religious policies, legal dissemination and education, and international integration.

At the ceremony, the Party Committee of the Thai Nguyen Provincial People’s Committee announced and presented decisions approving the appointments of the Secretary and Deputy Secretary of the TNU Party Committee for the 2025–2030 term. Thai Nguyen University also announced and presented decisions on the appointments of Presidents and Vice Presidents of its member universities.

Earlier the same day, a delegation of Thai Nguyen University led by Assoc. Prof. Hoang Van Hung, Secretary of the TNU Party Committee and President of Thai Nguyen University, paid tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at the Ho Chi Minh Memorial House on Deo De Peak and offered incense in memory of General Vo Nguyen Giap at the Pu Don Hill Relic Site within the ATK Dinh Hoa Special National Relic Area. On this occasion, the delegation presented VND 100 million in support of the construction of two houses for disadvantaged families in Phu Dinh Commune, reaffirming Thai Nguyen University’s commitment to social responsibility and its enduring tradition of serving and giving back to the community.
