In line with major policies and guidelines of the Communist Party and the Nation on digital transformation, particularly Resolution No. 52-NQ/TW dated September 27, 2019 of the Politburo on proactively participating in the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in the development of science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation. Thai Nguyen University (TNU) has identified digital transformation as a key strategic pillar to enhance training quality, modernize governance, and strengthen services for learners.

The initial implementation phase has yielded positive outcomes, with the establishment of an integrated digital university governance platform. Thai Nguyen University has completed and put into operation multiple modules within its comprehensive management system, covering all core processes, such as training management, assessment and examination, finance and accounting, human resources, facilities and asset management, and electronic document administration. These efforts have contributed to improving learner services and enhancing transparency in university governance.
The University has strongly shifted toward digital education and digitized learning resources, with 100% of academic programs deploying a unified Learning Management System (LMS) and E-learning platform. The digital learning resource repository has reached over 45,000 items, doubling within just two years. On average, more than 28,000 learners use the online learning system each semester, while 60–70% of lecturers have developed digitized courses. As a result, Thai Nguyen University ranks among the leading regional universities in Vietnam in terms of online training capacity.
By applying Big Data in academic management, Thai Nguyen University has established a centralized learner database interconnected across its member institutions. This has improved enrollment forecasting accuracy by 25%, enabled automated monitoring of learning progress, and provided early warnings of academic risks. Statistical and reporting quality has been significantly enhanced, meeting state management requirements and accreditation standards. In parallel, the University has modernized its assessment and quality assurance systems through the implementation of online examinations with AI-based proctoring and standardized question banks. These measures have reduced examination costs by 30%, enhanced transparency and objectivity, and shortened result announcement timelines from 10 days to just 3–5 days.
In addition, Thai Nguyen University has developed a comprehensive digital ecosystem to support learners. Numerous digital services have been integrated into mobile applications, including learning progress tracking, course registration, online public services, conduct score inquiries, and access to digital library resources.

To achieve these outcomes, the leadership of Thai Nguyen University has consistently regarded digital transformation as an essential requirement for enhancing higher education quality. Accordingly, the University has issued multiple resolutions and action programs to ensure unified implementation across the entire university system and its member institutions.
In recent years, Thai Nguyen University has invested more than VND 200 billion from the National budget and socialized funding sources in information technology infrastructure, data centers, information security systems, digital classrooms, and shared software platforms. Member institutions have developed digital laboratories, 3D simulation systems, and virtual practice models. Human resources for digital transformation have been progressively standardized. Thai Nguyen University has also strengthened cooperation with Viettel Group to develop digital platforms, smart laboratories, cybersecurity centers, and digital skills training programs for students. All platforms and solutions are designed to expand learning opportunities, enhance personalization, support anytime-anywhere learning, and improve the overall learner experience.
Looking ahead, with the strategic goal of becoming a Digital University by 2030, Thai Nguyen University will continue to complete its Smart University model, featuring data-driven operations, the application of artificial intelligence in academic advising, admissions, and governance, and the full digitization of learner and staff records. The University will further standardize 100% of courses under digital and blended learning models. By the 2027–2028 academic year, 80% of learning materials are expected to be digitized, 100% of courses will be delivered via LMS platforms, and 30–40% of total training time will be integrated with online learning.
In addition, Thai Nguyen University plans to establish a University Data Center as a foundation for system-wide data integration, serving accreditation, scientific research, and intelligent governance. Artificial intelligence will be applied across management, assessment, and learner support, including AI chatbot student assistants, academic risk prediction systems, semi-automated grading, and intelligent learning supervision. Digital transformation will go hand in hand with innovation in cooperation models, such as shared digital laboratories, demand-driven training programs, and research and technology transfer projects in partnership with technology enterprises.
